The project is for new facilities to accommodate Annie the rescue elephant. This project was funded through charitable donations as a result of a campaign by the Daily Mail to rehouse Annie who was rescued from ill-treatment at the hands of her previous owners.
The building is designed in accordance with BIAZA guidelines and with the assistance of international elephant experts. The enclosure has a range of enrichment features in order to reduce the stress on animals. These include heated sand-pits, variable feeding stations, play equipment and an artificial watering hole.
