Childs Hill Park

Childs Hill Park

Park Masterplanning | Childs Hill Park, Barnet

  • Contract Type: Traditional
  • Cost: ££200k
  • Client: London Borough of Barnet
  • Status: Tender
  • Completed: June, 2021

The London Borough of Barnet and Friends of Childs Hill Park is a brilliant partnership of community and council. They commissioned NVB to re-design two areas in Childs Hill Park with funding from nearby developments. These are a disused bowling green and over-grown planting bed to address a number of issues and increase the functions in the park. NVB worked from concept design up to the production of tender information for the tender and construction to be managed by the council. The friends had already undertaken consultation to define the brief for our commission to guide the design.

The bowling green will become a Picnic Grove, a dog-free picnic area with toddler play within play mounds and a grove of trees. Picnic benches have been designed to be truly accessible, creating a pattern with spaces for wheelchairs and pushchairs to access the tables, without the institutional character that some 'accessible' furniture can have. Colour is a focus to unify elements and create a more natural and restful character for this oasis in Barnet.
