The new Memorial Hall at The Cathedral School, Llandaff was officially opened earlier this month by the Most Revd Dr Barry Morgan, Archbishop of Wales and Bishop of Llandaff.

The building replaces a post-war hall and provides the infants school with a multipurpose space for dining, PE and learning as well as a space for community use. It is a complex site within the Llandaff conservation area, working around existing trees, managing complex changes in levels whilst maximising the available space for the school both inside and out, including an extension to the nursery play area. This follows over eight years of development that NVB have seen through from master plan to completion.

Works start at Leighton Park School for a new music and media centre. The project includes 3 new music classrooms, recording facilities, practice rooms, media suite and new foyer attached to the existing school theatre.

NVB are delighted to be appointed to deliver a strategic masterplan for both the Senior and Prep schools for this local school.

The unique settings of both provide some exciting opportunities that we will be exploring with the pupils and staff over the coming months.

We are delighted to announce that Richard Paige (Director) has successfully passed the Passivhaus Institute examination and NVB now has an officially accredited Passivhaus Designer within the practice. We are particularly excited about exploring the Passivhaus approach on some of our future education projects.

NVB have submitted a planning application for a small housing scheme on a steeply sloping infill site close to a town centre.

The scheme has been carefully designed to minimise the impact of development on a publicly accessible meadow which has high amenity value close to the town centre. Visual studies demonstrated that the building would not impact the existing skyline.

The buildings are designed to the highest possible Passivhaus standards with IFC walling, triple glazing, heat recovery systems, and a large array of PV cells for each unit.

The renewed outdoor play area for the reception classes at Warmley Park School is nearing completion. The rubber play surface and synthetic grass add much-needed colour. A canopy, sensory play equipment, low level play features and bamboo planting are intended to create a safe and stimulation space for the pupils, who have a range of learning and physical difficulties.

This Friday, 7^th October, Dauntsey’s School are formally opening their new sports pavilion and teaching block. The two separate projects have run onsite consecutively over the last 2 years. Both buildings are now in use by the school and have been enhanced by NVB Landscape’s input including a re-designed landscape quad in the heart of the campus that reconnects the new teaching block, Awdry Sports Hall and Memorial Hall. The dining hall has also received an update with a new brise soleil and pedestrian link bridge.

We look forward to celebrating with the school tomorrow.

The three new tennis courts at Victoria Park (Mary Baily Playing Field) in Frome, Somerset were opened on Sunday 10^th July. The project has already been a success of collaboration between Frome Selwood Tennis Club and Frome Town Council and improves the facilities in this key park in the town. This is the next phase of a master plan that NVB developed for the town council and continues to evolve. There were three courts in another part of the park that have been returned to grass. NVB managed the planning application and tender for a design and build contractor to build the courts. The courts have already been in use, being enjoyed by many people in the town.

Dauntsey’s School in Wiltshire has a new landscape to enjoy. This new Quad has been created as a result of a school master plan developed by NVB Architects within which the construction of a new classroom block this year allowed this quad to be redesigned from its former use as a car park and then games court. The games court has been re-provided (green court paint to follow soon) whilst maximising the planting and the ‘greening’ effect. The space links a large number of buildings and will be used for games informally and as a significant social space for day pupils and boarders.
